The story revolves around real-life characters – Mack Sennet and Mabel Normand and their long love relationship. Mack is a larger than life Actor, Producer, Writer and Director of silent slapstick comedy movies. Mabel becomes a star, under the direction of Mack, after they met on set in 1911 where Mack is acting opposite Lottie Ames, an established star. Following his subsequent success with numerous “two-reeler” silent comedy movies,
Mack moves his studio from Brooklyn to Hollywood after which he loses Mabel to another film producer to make larger epic-type (and bad) films. Mabel is eventually persuaded to come back to Mack and continue their long love affair. Workaholic Mack neglects his relationship with Mabel and they part once more. Years go by and, after tragedy strikes Mabel, Mack comes to her rescue and determines to re-establish her career.
The show is full of frenetic slapstick comedy action and includes such superb Gerry Herman numbers as “I Won’t Send Roses”...
