Description
For a few days in February, the wooden beams of the Church Barn will be transformed into the deck of a pirate galleon when The Charing Guild of Players present a rollicking version of Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island'. Adapted from the original novel by Phil Wilmott, this swashbuckling stage adaptation was premiered at London's South Bank Festival in 2005 and, inspired by real-life 18th Century female adventurers, the show includes a significant number of glamorous female pirates among the cast.
'Treasure Island' takes to the stage of The Church Barn on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 3rd to 6th at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday 6th at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £7 with a £5 concession price for those in full-time education.
The Guild is delighted that Karin of Wood You Like in School Road has offered to run the box office for this production and tickets will be available in her shop from Monday January 18th or by calling 01233 713725.

Description
In 1956 the vicar, the Rev. Patrick Lury, together with parishioners and Guild members, paid £100 for a C17th tithe barn located at High Halden, some nine miles distant. Its fine old timbers were lovingly dismantled and rebuilt over a period of two years on a site adjoining Charing church.
On April 28 1958 the national press reported that 'the parishioners of Charing had erected a new theatre under the North Downs'.
Today The Church Barn is used as the hub of the community and is the perfect setting to watch entertaining performances.
