Whats On In Kent Theatres
A celebratory entertainment devised by John Barton
A special one off performance to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. A unique entertainment composed of the letters, speeches, poems, songs and music by and about the kings and queens of England, originally devised for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Four actors and a musician perform the piece which sparkles with the wit of several centuries and demonstrates the vulnerable humanity of those who have worn the crown. These are not the Kings and Queens to be met with in history books but the living, breathing men and women who have played out their lives on the stage of England’s court.

The Theatre is located on the delightful Two Sisters Lawn in the award winning gardens of Hever Castle in Kent, adjacent to the legendary Anne Boleyn Walk – the Castle was originally the home of the Boleyn family. The lawn is surrounded by some delightful flower beds including the famous ‘long border’ and an abundance of ornamental trees; it also contains the picturesque Two Sisters pond (and grotto) and a magnificent Tulip Tree.
As well as being a visual delight, the setting provides a natural auditorium with easy access to the theatre car park and the lakeside for those who prefer to picnic in view of the lake. For the others, the lawn itself provides a convenient and relaxing spot for that preshow picnic.
Additional Information:
All evening performances start at 8pm unless otherwise stated. The castle gates open at 6.30pm for pre theatre picnics. Matinee performances start at 2.30pm and the gates open at 2pm.
